Why We Became LIPs
Many people ask us how we do what we do, not why we do it. But I think it’s important, before becoming a Location Independent Professional to ask yourself why you want to be one. This kind of life isn’t for everyone - I know several people for whom our kind of nomadic lifestyle would be a horror…
My Dad even said to me at one point “Well, how long do you think you’re going to be doing this? You can’t keep doing it forever. What if you no longer want to do it?”. Well, the short answer to that is…”Then we’ll stop”!!
So why did we decide to become LIPs?
1) Jonathan was made redundant in September and it was a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to think “aaaagh, how can we get rid of our mortgage, free up some assets and be a bit more flexible?”
2) I’ve always wanted to live & work in the Caribbean (I know we’re not there yet but we’re working our way round)
3) We really wanted to “see” Central & South America - but didn’t want to do the whole backpacker/travel thing - and didn’t want to take more time off from earning an income.
4) I get bored really easily of living in the same culture/environment for too long. I love to experience different cultures, languages and people - and spending more time in each place than your usual 2 week holiday allows you to do just that.
5) We have known for a long time that we don’t want to settle for the long term in the UK. The main problem so far has been that we don’t know where else we want to live, so we’re taking this time to explore the world, visit possible places we’ve never been and find out if somewhere grabs us enough to want to live there.
6) Because we can!
