Panama Day Trip: El Valle de Anton

Posted by Lea Woodward 26 March, 2007

El_valle_view_2Yesterday we went on another trip - booked
with a local firm who supplied us with a car & driver. We wanted to
go to the mountains & beaches on the Pacific coast nearer to Panama
City.

El Valle is about a 2 hour drive from the city and sits in the
valley created by a dormant volcano. The climate there is slightly
cooler than in the lowlands - and is more like a perpetual spring time.
It does get hot in the day but cools down at night so that apparently
you can have a log fire.

El Valle de Anton itself is a pretty small town but it has a local
handicrafts market which also sells fruit, veg and plants. It’s popular
with Panamanians who make a trip from the city at weekends…

It’s
a lovely little place. The climate did indeed "feel" fresher and we
actually got rained on whilst we were walking round the small zoo.

The market was nice - not especially big - but it’s a very nice
weekend place and some of the houses were gorgeous. Lots of colourful
flowers & hedgerows and it reminded me a bit of Austria or
Switzerland.
