Panama Furnished Apartment: Amador Causeway
The second furnished apartment we stayed in in Panama, we rented from Pattys Casitas.
Patty & Rudy are a very interesting, well-travelled couple who originally ran a B&B in Rome but have now moved back to Panama (Rudy is half Panamanian) to run a B&B and rent out furnished properties.
They currently on have one in Amador but apparently have plans for at least one more apartment in a very nice part of town. We rented their apartment in Amador for 1 month.
Here’s our review…
1) Landlords & Letting Company
Patty & Rudy were excellent. Very prompt in replying to emails and both speak pretty much fluent English. The process of arranging the apartment was simple and the fact they met us at the apartment showed us round & showed us how everything worked was very much appreciated.
We’re not sure if they do this for all guests - but they also invited us round to their house for drinks before we left which was a very nice touch.
2) Location & Amenities
The apartment is located right at the entrance to the Amador Causeway (a la entrada de Calzada), just before the entrance to TGI Fridays (antes de la entrada de Fridays). It sits up on a small hill and so enjoys some very good views of the city skyline & Casco Viejo.
Although it sits off the road, one side of the apartment is on the same side as the main causeway road and as there’s no double-glazing, you can hear the traffic in the apartment when it gets busy (and it sometimes does!). The Country Inn & Suites hotel is right next door, as is TGI Fridays. Otherwise, for restaurants, cafes etc. you have to go to the end of the causeway.
There is a very small supermarket about a 15 minute walk from the apatment but it’s not great and is better to take a cab to Riba Smith or El Rey.
3) Apartment Fixtures, Fittings & Services
The fittings in the apartment are excellent - very high quality. The apartment is nicely furnished although it would be nice to have a more comfy sofa instead of the sofa bed. The high stools by the ‘bar’ in the middle of the living area is not the most comfortable ‘dining area’. The kitchen is a bit on the small side and there is practically no preparation space.
The bathroom is excellent - very big, 2 sinks and a lovely huge shower & shower head. The bedroom is also a very good size (a little wasted space really) with a very big (king-size), comfortable bed. Aside from the bed in the Marriott Hotel it was easily the most comfortable bed we slept in in Panama.
There is absolutely tons of storage space in the apartment and it is generally very well equipped.
The apartment comes complete with a small workstation & desktop computer, hooked up to broadband. There is also a wireless router although this is an unsecured connection.
4) Added Extras
The really big plus for us was the provision of two bikes. This is ideal for cycling along the causeway of an afternoon and very pleasant. At the time of our stay, we had problems with the lc=ock but we suggested to Patty & Rudy that they buy a new one and provide 2 so the bikes can be taken out separately.
The apartment comes with free local phone calls. There are 2 roof terraces which are both very nice and have some great views. There is a local toucan which you can often hear & see from the apartment & the terraces.
4) Value for money
Given the quality of the apartment & the fittings/fixtures the apartment is generally good value for money. For Panama itself however it is on the pricier side and you can get apartments for a lot cheaper. If we’d have been given a preferable rate for booking for 2-3 months at a time, we’d have probably extended our stay but this wasn’t available.
5) Photos
You can see photos of the apartment on their website here >>>
