The View From My Current Office
This is the view from my current ‘office’ here in Grenada. We arrived last night and stepped off the plane to a sauna-like heat compared with the onset of an autumn chill in the UK.
We have spent the morning re-acquainting ourselves with the island and its inhabitants - including our coconut man, Chris, who seemed pleased with the 50 blank CDs we’d bought him despite not really showing it & spiriting them away quickly in his bag with a quiet exclamation of “Raaaaastaaaaaman”.
Not having a car this time round we braved the 30 degree heat at 9am to walk to the supermarket (about a 30 minute walk) but chickened out & got a taxi ride back. Instead, we’re hiring bikes for our 3 month stay here - for environmental, financial and health reasons.
We have also done the usual ‘on arrival’ tasks such as re-charge our local SIM cards & buy some of the necessaries that we didn’t bring with us.
I even found something which satisfied my inner gadget geek this morning….a wireless travel adaptor which will make the ADSL connection here wireless (obviously) and which comes in its own tiny little case, has retractable power pins & allows me to sit out here on the terrace and ‘work’. Stupidly we didn’t think of this whilst in NYC where I am sure it would have cost half the price…but nevertheless, it’s a great investment for LIP living and making the most out of hotel, coffee shop or LIP apartment internet connections.
