5 LIP Exercises You Can Take Anywhere

Posted by Greg Hollings 9 November, 2007

Here’s a confession for you!

I’ve been slacking off going to the gym recently. Ok, it’s not much of a confession really. Everyone slacks off now and again don’t they? Even Wellbeing coaches :-)

I do enjoy my routine once I get started but it takes 50 minutes to complete and I can’t be bothered with the travelling to and from the gym.

So I thought, as we’re so busy preparing for next year, it’s a good idea to slim down my exercise routine down to 5 “big bang” exercises that I can do in our apartment. In fact, I could do these exercises pretty much anywhere.

So what do I mean by big bang?

I call them big bang exercises because they give the whole of your body a good workout in a shorter period of time, which is great if you’re travelling or simply want a change of scenary.

So here they are:

  • Forward Lunge with an overhead press. You don’t even need dumbbells. Two water coconuts or litre water bottles will do.
  • Normal Squats. Fold your arms out in front of you and squat down slowly.
  • Press Ups
  • Chin Ups
  • The Plank. A killer abdominal exercise. The key is to relax the shoulders and let the abs take the strain. Hold for 30 seconds.

3 sets of 10 repetitions for each exercise (apart from The Plank) keeps me in shape and energised for my day ahead. Not everyone enjoys these kinds of exercises but, as Lea has said previously, whatever you like doing the idea is to keep moving!

One note of caution: If you haven’t tried any of the above exercises previously it’s generally best to consult your medical practitioner and/or a fitness coach beforehand so that you can get the most out of your routine.

Isnt it amazing how much more daily energy and daily concentration we all have when we exercise everyday….but we all gently slide away from a daily routine and before we know it we feel like ****…and then it dawns on us and we begin to exercise again and the cycle starts again.

You’re absolutely right Jim. Actually, as I’ve transferred my routine in the gym to my apartment it has become more of a energising and core maintenance routine rather than a muscle-building program. Either way it’s working out well!

I’ve been wondering what I will do when I can’t get to a gym. I do push ups and sit ups, but that doesn’t work the whole body enough. Thanks for the suggestions!
