10 Xmas Gifts Ideas For Location Independent Professionals

Seeing as everyone else is at it at the moment, here are 10 Xmas Gift ideas to direct your loved ones to when they ask “So if you want to travel light and you don’t want me to buy you anything…what can I get you?”
A 3 in 1 Powerstrip
This Monster ‘Outlets To Go‘ device lets you turn 1 power socket into 3 so you can charge your laptop, cell phone and Ipod all in one go.
Wire-free Charging Unit
The first of two very nifty power solutions for your gadgets…the WildCharge is the first wire-free charging power solution and was selected as one of TIME magazine’s best inventions of 2007.
Ultra Light Beach Towels
We’ve had to travel without beach towels, even to our tropical paradise of Grenada, because we just couldn’t fit them in. These ultra light towels are the ideal solution.
USB Cell Rechargeable Batteries
Rechargeable batteries with a built-in charger allowing you to simply plug the battery into a USB port and charge away.
Automatically Adjusting Travel Clock
If you work with clients and need to keep on top of calls/consultations with people in different time zones whilst you travel, this clock would be a god-send as it automatically adjusts itself 6 times in 24 hours.
Ethernet loopback jack
Ever needed to test an internet connection port but couldn’t be bothered with the hassle of getting out your laptop, starting it up and then plugging it in to see whether the port was live? This nifty keyring is your answer!
Advanced Wi-Fi Connection Finder
Better than the average Wi-fi detector which simply tells you what networks exist, this device tells you their status, strength and more importantly, their security details so you know whether to bother getting your laptop out and firing it up to connect.
Solar Charger for Mobile Phones &Ipods
Compatible with all Ipods and 250 models of mobile phones, this is a great little device for charging up items without having to find a power point.
The Ultimate Packing Solution
Having travelled with and without these, I can safely say that travelling with them is a whole lot easier and tidier. These would be my ‘must have’ item for LIPs travelling with cables, gadgets and other bits and bobs that they want to keep tidy.
And this is one I really want for the future…saves having to choose 1 book to take with me:
Amazon’s new reader: Kindle
Judging by many of the reviews about Kindle, people seem to be pleasantly surprised by the reading experience offered by ‘electronic paper’ – with some people even going so far as to say it’s easier on the eyes than reading an actual paper book. From a LIP perspective, this is an ideal solution to the challenge of having to pick your 2 or 3 favourite books to carry with you. Now you can just bring them all!

I think it slightly funny that 9 of the 10 are techie and the 1 of ten is a “towel” ! The more things change the more things stay the same.
Thanks for the post, interesting and informative as usual
You’re right Jim…does this reveal my techy geek nature??!? Having said that, as a LIP, aside from clothes we don’t tend to bring much else…in fact we’re just packing now in preparation for going to Dubai/South Africa on Friday and half of our suitcase is clothes, the other half is tech stuff!
P.S. There are some pretty good ideas in this article that I’ve just found…http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22200817/
