Concluding this series on Safety & Security, which includes my previous post about how to keep your stuff safe whilst you travel and Greg’s post on how to keep yourself safe in a foreign country, in this post I’ll be sharing the story of how I was robbed by a group of 10 year old girls and how you can prevent the same from happening to you.

As Claudia and I have just arrived in the Swiss Alps with plans to go to Brazil in October, I’ve been thinking of my favourite recipes to take with us and wonder whether they’d taste quite the same in different parts of the world.
When you make new friends on your travels and are invited for dinner or to a party a friendly gesture, which is always appreciated, is to bring a dish of some kind. I find it helps to break the ice.

Following on from Lea’s first post about Keeping Your Stuff Safe, there are a few things you can do to keep yourself safe whilst out and about.
It’s easy to become another crime statistic to be filed in a report by a jaded police officer who’s seen it all before; uninformed tourist wanders into a dangerous part of town by mistake, gets mugged and has their backpack, wallet and passport stolen.
However, I do believe that nowadays most LIPs, travellers or working nomads have heard of enough horror stories in the media to ensure that they take at least some precautions when they visit an unfamiliar place.
That said, I find that there are three elements that can lead you into trouble. The first two are distraction and surprise. The third is a lack of local knowledge.
