Weekend Update: Let Us Know What Else You Want To See (And Buy!)
This weekend’s post is a little late in publishing mostly because Jonathan and I have been attending our “Parentcraft” classes over the past 2 days. Aside from planning what outfit the little madam is going to wear when she makes her first appearance on this and our other blogs (I realise my priorities might be a little off here!), it’s given us the kick we need to get the practicalities of her impending arrival sorted out.
But back to the Location Independent project…this week we’ve got a few new announcements to share and some reminders of a few things coming up which are all designed to help you in your pursuit of your own location independent lifestyle:

Many people have asked where the term “location independent” came from. It’s the phrase I’ve used to describe our nomadic, work-from-anywhere lifestyle ever since we first started doing this in 2007.
Since then, it seems to have become synonymous with the unconventional kind of lifestyle that involves running your business whilst travelling to any number of exotic locations around the world – which is the kind of location independent lifestyle we’ve been living.
If that’s all you think it is however, then you’re missing the point (and so was I for a long, long time)…

Optimizing your site for the search engines, mainly Google, is massively important for bringing in visitors. Nobody really knows for sure what makes Google happy but lots of people have a lot to say on the subject and there are numerous companies who claim to be able to get you to the top of Google with their expert SEO techniques.
I admit that I don’t know exactly what gets a site to the top of the Google search results but I have some hunches and have had some success getting my sites to number one in the Google rankings for my targeted search terms.
A tactic called link-building (generating inbound links to your website) is a huge part of SEO but another large part is the on-site tweaks you can make to your website to fully maximise your chances of getting your website to the top of Google…here are some of those tweaks:

House sitting and home exchanges are becoming more and more popular these days – and for good reason. They are a cheap way to explore a new destination, you have the creature comforts of a home and you get to live someone else’s life for a while. What’s not to love?
I’m signed up on a couple of house sitting sites and it is such a thrill to get an e-mail like this first thing in the morning:
‘House sitter needed for 1 month in Tuscany’. Clicking further reveals a picture of a gorgeous cottage in the hills of Tuscany. The owner writes, ‘Need someone to look after my house and cat while I leave for a short visit abroad. No other duties!’
Of course my first thought was: “Is this for real?”
